The neck (cervical spine) is composed of vertebrae that begin in the upper torso and end at the base of the skull. The bones, ligaments, and muscles in our necks support the head and allow for mobility. Daily wear and tear, growing older, and injury and accidents are common neck injuries. At any given time, about 10% of the adult population is suffering from a stiff neck. All too commonly, it’s from sleeping funny, poor posture or overuse.

85% of Americans suffer from neck or back pain at some point in their lives. Because the neck is so flexible and because it supports the head, it is extremely vulnerable to injury. Vehicle accidents, sports and slips and falls may result in neck injury. Most episodes of neck muscle strain result in a stiff neck and/or pain in a shoulder muscle.
